A local leader grows. A refugee-led organization that already knows its community gets the backing to do more of what is already working.

A community chooses its future. Neighbors decide together where beauty already lives and how to create more of it. The plan is theirs.

A place comes to life. A creative center, a garden, a playground, a place to gather, built by the people who use it every day.

The change keeps growing. A place that sat unused becomes somewhere people work, create, and gather. And a whole community sees what it is capable of.

Meet Didier

“Refugees are providers and very resilient. We want to work. We want to create. We want to tell our own stories.”
Didier Maliki speaking at an Amahoro Coalition event

Didier Maliki is a Congolese social entrepreneur, and he has lived in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement in Uganda since 2021. “It is home,” he says.

He started UBUCHANGE, from the Swahili word ubunifu, which means creativity or innovation.

So that's what UBUCHANGE does. Refugee artisans and artists make market-ready products, and UBUCHANGE helps them sell those products online and grow their own small businesses. Every morning, women sit together and weave bags and baskets from natural fibers. They talk, they laugh, and they earn.

With Everyplace, UBUCHANGE turned its office into a Creative Center. Now women produce together there, young people learn sales and digital skills, and the whole community gathers to paint, connect and get online.

One leader. One space. A whole community working, creating, and growing together.

Now picture your business behind the next one.
